PHLEBOTOMIST POSITION SUMMARY

A Lab Technician performs laboratory services as ordered by a physician or qualified practitioner within the capabilities of the facility.

PHLEBOTOMIST MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High school graduate or equivalent

• Certified by professional organization in the state
• Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements
• Acute care experience preferred

PHLEBOTOMIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Gather medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags, and test tubes

• Explain blood draw procedures with patients
• Verify patient information and labeling blood samples properly
• Adheres to Universal Precaution procedures and established Infection Control procedures

• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills
• Is proficient with CPR and recognizes the need to implement it. Receive re-certification training annually
• Assists in cleaning, sterili
• Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications
