Job Description

Firm Overview Founded in 2010, Covenant Wealth Advisors is an award‑winning, independent, fee‑only wealth management firm. We specialize in helping individuals age 50+ plan for and enjoy retirement by integrating investment management, retirement planning, and tax planning into one coordinated strategy.

We are a team of fiduciary advisors—no commissions, no product sales—serving clients across Virginia and the United States. We manage over $890+ million in assets (as of 12/15/2025) with a culture built on integrity, excellence, and genuine care for our clients and each other.

The Opportunity: We are looking for a collaborative Associate Financial Advisor (AFA) to partner with a Senior Financial Advisor on a planning‑centric team. This role is designed for a professional who loves the relationship side of finance . You will help deliver deep retirement, tax, and estate planning advice to a select group of clients without the pressure of prospecting or cold-calling.

This position offers a structured mentorship track to help you grow into a Lead Financial Advisor. We are committed to your professional development and provide the support you need to advance your career.

What You'll Do: You will be a key member of the advisory team, ensuring our clients feel cared for, informed, and confident in their financial future.

Collaborative Planning & Support

  • Partner with a Senior Financial Advisor to prepare for client review meetings.
  • Participate in client meetings to document key conversations and decisions.
  • Create comprehensive financial and tax plans using MoneyGuide Elite, Tamarac, and Holistiplan.
  • Support the development of personalized Investment Policy Statements and holistic strategies.

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as a trusted resource for client questions and service needs.
  • Connect with new clients to coordinate onboarding and ensure a smooth, welcoming transition into the firm.
  • Manage client communication and data within our CRM (Wealthbox) to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

Investments & Implementation

  • Develop expertise in Covenant’s evidence‑based investment philosophy.
  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Trading team to implement portfolio changes, tax‑loss harvesting, and rebalancing.
  • Ensure client portfolios remain aligned with their long-term life goals.

Process & Team Contribution

  • Identify opportunities to improve our service and operational processes.
  • Contribute to a supportive culture of continuous learning and high standards of client care.

What We're Looking For: Research shows that some candidates may hesitate to apply if they don't meet 100% of the qualifications. If you believe you can succeed in this role, we encourage you to apply.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2+ years of direct financial planning experience.
  • Current Series 65 (or equivalent) and a clean U4.
  • Strong understanding of core financial planning concepts (investments, retirement, tax, estate).
  • Strong Organizational Skills: You are adept at managing multiple projects and following through on details.
  • Communication Skills: You listen well, write clearly, and enjoy connecting with people.
  • Team Mindset: You enjoy collaboration and believe the best work happens in a coordinated team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CFP®, CFA, EA, or CPA/PFS designation (or interest in pursuing one).
  • Experience with planning tools like MoneyGuide, Tamarac, Holistiplan, and Wealthbox.

Life at Covenant (Benefits & Culture) We believe that to take great care of our clients, we must first take care of our team. We value work-life balance and make space for family, friends, and personal fulfillment.

  • Paid Parental & Maternity Leave.
  • Dependent Care Account (FSA): Set aside pre-tax dollars for childcare expenses.
  • Hybrid Flexibility: Our collaborative hybrid model includes 4 days in-office and 1 day remote, allowing for focused work-from-home time.
  • Comprehensive Health: Covenant pays up to 75% of medical, dental, and vision premiums.
  • Financial Wellness: Competitive base salary, quarterly revenue-sharing bonus, and 401(k) plan.
  • Time Off: Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) policy.
  • Community: Matching gifts program to support the causes you care about.

Our Values

  • Integrity: We prioritize objectivity, transparency, and putting clients first.
  • Enjoy Life and Family: We respect boundaries and support your life outside the office.
  • Listen: We ask good questions, listen deeply, and take a genuine interest in people’s stories.
  • Pursue Excellence: We invest in better processes and superior outcomes.
  • Gratitude: We never take our clients' trust for granted.
  • Make It Happen: We foster a positive attitude where everyone owns their responsibilities.
